If you are in need of holiday related services or want to get involved, here is a list of program taking place across the community.

November Programs

  • Fall Food Festival
    Center for People’s Fall Food Festival allows visitors to receive seasonal foods native to this region, while collecting information on food preparation and nutrition in a festive, welcoming atmosphere.  Join us at 3901 N 27th St, Lincoln, NE 68521 on November 25, 26, and 27 to receive a Fall Food Box with seasonal meats, fruits, vegetables, and more! Fall Food Boxes without meat are available upon request. Fun games and activities for the whole family will also be provided! Attendees must be enrolled with Center for People through Clarity prior to the Fall Food Festival. Center for People will not be offering Clarity enrollment during the event.   • Thanksgiving Dinner
    Join Community Action’s Gathering Place at 1448 E St, Lincoln, NE 68508 on Thursday, November 28 for a free, delicious Thanksgiving dinner! Meals will be served for in-person dining or to-go 5-6 PM. No eligibility is required. Everyone welcome! For more information, please contact Same Bates at 402-875-9320.
  • Thanksgiving Food Giveaway
    The Good Neighbor Community Center’s Thanksgiving Food Giveaway is set for Monday, November 25 at 2617 Y St, Lincoln, NE 68503, aiming to ensure that every family can enjoy a traditional holiday meal. The giveaway will feature turkeys and halal chicken as the primary proteins, catering to diverse dietary needs in our community. Alongside these proteins, families will receive a variety of traditional Thanksgiving foods, including fresh vegetables, canned goods, and other staples that complete a holiday meal.   • 2024 Holiday Food Giveaway
    Join Malone Community Center for our 5th Annual Community Outreach Holiday Food Giveaway - a partnership with Visionary Youth and Malone Community Center - where we will be giving out turkey and thanksgiving food baskets to 1200 families! This event is Sunday, November 24, 1-4 PM at Saint Paul United Methodist Church (1144 M St, Lincoln, NE 68508). First come, first served. Limit one turkey per household.   • Thanksgiving Dinner
    Turkey dinner and all of the fixings will be served at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (2121 N. 27th St.) on November 28, 2024 from 5:30-6:30 PM. For more information, please contact Victoria O’Neil at 402-477-4116.

For Donors

  • Thanksgiving Food Baskets
    Donors can purchase the items needed for a Thanksgiving meal for a family staying at Friendship Home. Typically, these baskets contain a turkey, potatoes, stuffing, veggies, gravy and more. Delivery will be arranged due to confidentiality of locations. For more information, contact Dani Jurgens at 402-434-6599.

December Programs

  • Christmas Food Baskets
    Starting on Monday December 2, call Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska at 402-327-6200 to request your Christmas basket between 12- 1 PM ONLY. Orders filled while supplies last. Pick-up at 2241 O St., Lincoln, NE 68510 on Friday, December 20 between 9 AM - 12 PM and 1-4 PM. For more information, please contact Kristina Brandl at 402-327-6200.
  • Toyland
    Join Center for People at 3901 N 27th St, Lincoln, NE 68521 for Toyland, our annual holiday gift-giving event!  We’re excited to present this year’s Toyland celebration, a cherished Center for People tradition during the holiday season. Families are invited to visit our facilities and receive gifts for their children, with presents available for children of all ages — from newborns to high school students. To help us create a magical experience and ensure every child receives a gift to call their own, we kindly ask those who plan on attending to register in advance.   • Christmas Eve Dinner
    Community Action’s Gathering Place is hosting a free Christmas Eve dinner at 1448 E St, Lincoln, NE 68508 on December 24, 5-6 PM. Meals are open to anyone, no eligibility required. Guests can dine inside or take their meal to go. For more information, please contact Sam Bates at 402-875-9320.
  • Good Neighbor Community Center Grandparents (Christmas) Room
    The Good Neighbor Community Center’s Grandparents Room program is a unique initiative dedicated to supporting grandparents and elder caregivers who are raising children. During the holiday season (December 2-22), the Grandparents Room at 2617 Y St, Lincoln, NE 68503 transforms into a festive shopping experience, allowing grandparents to choose gifts for their grandchildren at no cost. This program is a way to honor and support the vital role grandparents play, offering them the joy and relief of providing for their families without added financial stress.   • Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Lunch and Dinner
    Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is open for lunch and dinner on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (December 24 and 25), 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM, and 5:30-6:30 PM, both days. Join us for a hot, nutritious, prepared meal served in a warm, welcoming, and festive dining room (2121 N. 27th St.). For more information, please contact Victoria O’Neil at 402-477-4116.
  • Winter Wonderland
    Embrace the magic of the season at the Winter Wonderland event at Mourning Hope Grief Center - Schroder Park Wellness Campus (1311 S Folsom St, Lincoln, NE 68522) on Tuesday, December 10 from 5:00–6:30 PM! Join us for an enchanting evening of festive fun, perfect for the whole family. From cozy holiday spirit to festive treats and drinks, this event promises to fill your heart with warmth and joy. There will be a variety of fun activities for all ages, plus, we’ll be giving out festive toys and surprises for the kids, available while supplies last. This event is free to attend, so dress warmly and bring your loved ones to experience the magic of the holidays in a truly special setting!   • Christmas Applications
    Applications for food and toys will be taken at The Salvation Army - Lincoln (2625 Potter St, Lincoln, NE 68503) December 2-4, 10 AM - 12 PM and 1 - 4 PM. ID, proof of address, and household size needed for applications. Contact Joanna Gillespie at 402-474-6263 for more information.

  • Adopt a CEDARS Family
    Participants get the story of the family as well as a wish list for each member. Contact Many Suing at 402-437-8815 for more information.
  • Adopt a Family at Voices of Hope
    By providing gifts you can help create a memorable and joyful Christmas for those who might otherwise go without. If you’d like to adopt a family or learn more about how you can help, please contact Kendra, at kendra@voicesofhopelincoln.org.
  • Holiday Wishes
    During the Holiday season donors can provide items to be given as gifts to those staying at Friendship Home. We have lists of wanted items that we can provide to you. For more information, please contact Dani Jurgens at 402-434-6599.
