Adopt-a-Resident- November – December 09
Fresh Start recently announced the kickoff for their annual Adopt-A-Resident program for the 2021 holiday season. They are encouraging people with a giving heart to help the women at the shelter feel more at home this holiday season. Many residents have families that live far away, and many others don't have family at all.
We ask our women to complete a Christmas wish list of five items. We try to get at least 3-5 items donated for Christmas. We ask that the items be dropped off to Fresh Start (6433 Havelock Ave.) by Friday, December 9. If you choose to wrap the items please mark the package with the woman's name and what's inside the package.

The Spirit of Giving
Information available at: mourninghope.org/programs/events.html
Thursday, December 9 | 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Ramadan, Kwanza and New Year’s Day are annual holidays that can prove difficult for people who have experienced the death of someone significant. Holidays can be some of the roughest terrain we navigate after a death loss. When a parent or primary caregiver has died, how does a child find the means to purchase and wrap a gift for their surviving caregiver? Many of the youth at Mourning Hope want to put a smile on their loved one’s face, and celebrating the spirit of giving brings the child great joy. For the second year in a row, First-Plymouth Church is teaming up with Mourning Hope this holiday season to support children in this gift-giving endeavor. Shopping for their caregiver is a rewarding and emotionally satisfying part of the holiday season, and children who have experienced the death of a caregiver and have attended any Mourning Hope grief support programs are invited to participate in a special event designed just for them.
Kids will have time to select and wrap a gift for their caregiver, and participate in a craft project. While the kids are shopping, some tips and helpful information about how to care for oneself while navigating the stresses of the holiday season will be offered to all caregivers.
